When I realized I had food security, after many years of neglect and humiliation, my inner child drew this food pyramid. This was several years after food security had been achieved in my life, and it was still difficult for me to accept.
There does not need to be any level of shame associated with the nutrition that is necessary to fuel our human bodies. I’m definitely not saying that food insecurity equals child neglect. I am saying that some children are starved/undernourished/underfed for reasons that aren’t connected to poverty. Emotionally immature caregivers will use any element of life against a child, even elements such as nutrition that are required for survival.
